1. About This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the Clipy iOS application, the Clipy website, the Clipy Knowledge API, and related services (collectively, "Clipy," "we," "us," or "our").
Questions and privacy requests may be sent to support@clipylink.com.
2. Information we process
Account and authentication information
Depending on the sign-in options available to you, we may process an email address, phone number, verification status, account identifier, login session, and identifiers provided by an authentication service such as Google or Apple. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.
Content you choose to save
Clipy processes content that you actively submit or create, including URLs, titles, source domains, article text, notes, images, files, timestamps, favorites, reading status, and related metadata. When you submit a link, our server may request the linked public page to create a readable copy or preview.
Subscription information
For Apple in-app subscriptions, we may receive and store product identifiers, transaction identifiers, subscription status, trial and renewal dates, expiration dates, refund or revocation status, and an account-linking token. Apple processes your payment method; Clipy does not receive your full card or bank account details.
Usage, device, and diagnostic information
We operate first-party analytics and service logs. These may include account or installation identifiers, actions taken in Clipy, entry identifiers, source domains, processing status and error reasons, platform, app version, language, locale-derived region, time zone, timestamps, IP address, and request information. Clipy does not currently use third-party advertising trackers or third-party crash analytics SDKs.
Support information
If you contact support or submit feedback, we process your message, contact details, attached screenshots or images, and technical information needed to investigate the request.
3. How we collect information
- Directly from you, when you register, save content, upload a file, create a note, subscribe, provide a Knowledge API key to an external tool, or contact support.
- Automatically from the service, when Clipy records synchronization, processing, security, and product-interaction events.
- From service providers, such as Apple for subscription status or a sign-in provider for the account information you authorize it to provide.
- From public pages you request us to process, when Clipy retrieves public metadata and content for your saved link.
4. Why we use information
We use information to:
- create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and maintain sessions;
- save, process, organize, search, display, and synchronize user content;
- provide offline reading, subscriptions, account entitlements, support, and Knowledge API access;
- operate, troubleshoot, protect, and prevent abuse of Clipy;
- understand product performance and improve Clipy, including existing or future content and knowledge-management features;
- create aggregated or de-identified statistics, research, and service insights;
- communicate service, security, billing, support, and policy information; and
- comply with law and enforce our Terms.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving Clipy, your consent, and compliance with legal obligations. We will provide additional notice or seek consent where required for a materially different use.
5. When information is disclosed
We do not sell your personal information, use it for cross-app advertising, or share it with data brokers. We may disclose limited information in these circumstances:
- Infrastructure and communications. UCloud hosts Clipy systems in Hong Kong. Email or SMS delivery providers may process contact information and verification messages when those sign-in methods are enabled.
- Authentication and purchases. Google or Apple processes information when you choose its sign-in service. Apple processes App Store purchases, subscriptions, cancellations, and refund requests.
- Web content retrieval. A website may receive a request from Clipy's server when you ask Clipy to save or refresh a link. The website operates under its own terms and privacy practices.
- External AI tools you choose. An external AI service can receive your Clipy content only when you actively configure that service with your Clipy Knowledge API key and request access.
- Safety and legal compliance. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to protect users, investigate abuse, comply with a valid legal process, or establish and defend legal claims.
- Business changes. Information may be transferred as part of a reorganization, financing, acquisition, or transfer of Clipy, subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice where required.
We require service providers acting for us to protect information and use it only for the services they provide.
6. Clipy Knowledge API and external AI
Clipy does not proactively send your saved collection to a third-party AI service.
If you generate or reveal a Knowledge API key and provide it to an external AI product, that product can use the key to request permitted content from your Clipy account. The external product's provider independently controls how it handles information it receives. You should only connect services you trust, protect the key like a password, and rotate or revoke it if it may have been exposed.
Clipy may keep security and access logs for Knowledge API requests, including the account, key prefix or hash, endpoint, response status, timing, and limited request or response summaries. These logs help secure and operate the API.
7. Storage, transfers, and security
Clipy's production service is hosted on UCloud infrastructure in Hong Kong. Information may also be processed in other locations where you or our service providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws from your place of residence.
We use safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections, access controls, authenticated API access, and restricted server administration. No service can guarantee absolute security, and you are responsible for protecting your device, account credentials, and Knowledge API keys.
8. Retention and deletion
We generally keep account information and active user content while your account remains open and for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain security, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
Deleting a saved item removes it from your visible collection. A deleted item and related files may remain in internal records for operational integrity, recovery, abuse prevention, or legal purposes before being removed or de-identified. Server backups are generally retained for up to 14 days, after which they are rotated. Restoring a backup may temporarily reintroduce data scheduled for deletion, and our deletion process will be reapplied.
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information through the account controls made available in Clipy or by contacting support@clipylink.com. We may verify the request before acting. After a verified account deletion, we delete or de-identify associated personal information from active systems, except for limited information that we reasonably need to retain for security, fraud prevention, transaction records, legal compliance, or the establishment or defense of legal claims.
Aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer reasonably identify you may be retained and used for analytics, research, service improvement, and future content-related services.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information, or to withdraw consent. You can delete saved items in Clipy, manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple account, rotate a Knowledge API key, sign out, or contact us to exercise an applicable right.
We may request information reasonably necessary to verify your identity. You may also have the right to complain to a local data-protection authority.
10. Children
Clipy accounts are intended for people aged 13 or older. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use Clipy only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. Clipy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.
11. Third-party content and services
Clipy can display links, copies, or previews originating from third-party websites and can connect to services selected by you. We do not control those third parties. Their terms and privacy policies govern your direct interactions with them.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as Clipy changes. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required by law or when a change materially affects your rights. Continued use after an update takes effect is subject to the updated Policy.
